Donnie Lorene Young Kiser was born April 12th, 1934 in Horatio, Arkansas and raised in nearby DeQueen by parents Oscar Young and Mignon Mills Young. In her young adulthood she moved to Dallas, Texas where she met and married John Eli Kiser. During their 54 years of marriage they had two children, John Andrew Kiser and Valerie Ann Kiser Slattery. Besides her marriage and family, her greatest accomplishment was earning her bachelorette and master's degree in Library Science. Her love of reading and books is what she shared the most. She taught in the Garland Independence School District for more than 20 years, helping to pioneer the role of librarians in Garland. She had a passion for sharing her love of reading with every student who came her way. After her retirement, she greatly enjoyed being a grandmother, travelling extensively with John to all 7 continents of the world, her time to enjoy nature and gardening, and walks with her beloved pugs. She is survived by her husband John Kiser, her son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Mendy Kiser, her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Jeff Slattery, and her brother Jessie Young. Her grandchildren include: John Michael Slattery, Erin Christine Kiser, and Katherine Regina Slattery.
